ABSTRACT
The preceding chapters have analysed processes of cooperation and integration, but this chapter takes a slightly more theoretical bend. After a brief note on the central concepts of equilibrium, spill-back and disintegration, it focuses on federalism’s and neo-functionalism’s explanations of limits to regional integration referring to the analysis of this volume. In doing so, it implicitly examines the theories’ potential for understanding and explaining limits to regional integration.
