ABSTRACT

The chapters that make up this volume deal primarily with the establishment of connections among infrastructure networks and services across political boundaries. In the following, the ‘integration of infrastructures’ or ‘infrastructure integration’ is defined with that in mind. The aim of this contribution is to present several perspectives for future research on the basis of the preceding chapters and recently published literature on the topic. Its structure follows the analysis of historical events (e.g. the establishment of a railway connection between two countries), in which a differentiation is usually made among the causes, the ‘courses’ and the effects.
