ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses Individualism and Egalitarianism: 'Organizational Capture' and 'Organizational Tyranny'. The process of organizational capture had effectively passed from Enclavism to Hierarchy. The two cases illustrate the advantages of participant observation (PO) as a research method An opposition has been identified between clinical that is, psychoanalytic and ethnographic approaches to understanding organizations. Such dynamics have been less readily applied to organizations in the developed world but have been extensively recorded in the ethnographic literature of other cultures Socially, economically and in organizational terms, Arnold had managed the group's disposition towards the outside, controlled its internal relationships, and handled its immediate relations with the company. On demobilization, Arnold was convinced that principles underpinning the WASBs should be adopted in industry to select trainee executives and he convinced a major multinational company to recruit management trainees according to its principles.
