ABSTRACT
The Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre (Meno Ya Win) is located in Northwestern Ontario, Canada. ‘The town of Sioux Lookout is situated in the traditional territory of the Ojibways of Lac Seul First Nation’ (Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre, February 2013, p. 4). Aboriginal people are the first people of Canada. ‘The term “First Nations” refers to one of three distinct groups recognized as “Aboriginal” in the Constitution Act of 1982. The other two distinct groups characterized as “Aboriginal” are the Métis and the Inuit’ (Assembly of First Nations). ‘These are three distinct peoples with unique histories, languages, cultural practices and spiritual beliefs. More than one million people in Canada identify themselves as Aboriginal persons, according to the 2006 Census’ (Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada).
