ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author presents his autoethnography, discusses the analytic autoethnographic research approach and applies Anderson's five requirements of an analytic autoethnography. These requirements are complete member researcher status; analytic reflexivity; narrative visibility of the researcher's self; dialogue with informants beyond the self; and commitment to theoretical analysis. The author feels classroom experience of 'the beast' from within would inform him in taking a more considered approach to the task and strengthen his argument for something more than rote learning of facts in terms of assessment design. He explicates about the difference between what he was offering in the massive open online courses (MOOC) and what he offered in his paid degree course teaching. Overall, given so many people in the world are unable to access university-level education due to geographic, cultural or socioeconomic factors, the author would strive to build on experiences as both a MOOC student and university.
