In recent decades migration has become a worldwide phenomenon. The rapid globalization of the world’s economies and political environments will ensure that the number of migrants, at least half of whom are women (in some countries, women account for the overwhelming majority of migrants), will increase even further in the 21st century in all of the world’s major geographical regions.
