ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on minority women living in the UK, but not only do the issues explored traverse geographic borders, a number of authors make explicit links to the wider contexts and communities which form part of minority women's lives. Hannana Siddiqui uses the continuum to show how forced marriage, domestic and sexual violence are all part of honour based violence, whether this is a separate form of violence against women and girls (VAWG) or is more accurately described as a conducive context/motive for it. Human rights has become an important framing for VAWG in the UK, recognised in successive government strategies and linking to international commitments under the UN Convention for the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). Simultaneously, feminist interventions on VAWG focus on demanding that the state fulfil its obligations to protect women and provide access to justice.
