Many years ago, when working at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, I developed a temporary gallery for young children aged three to eight years to accompany the museum's exhibition on the Spanish Armada. The gallery was highly participative, with a reconstructed section of a sixteenth-century ship for children to explore, and a storytelling corner in the form of a rocky outcrop.
