ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book describes Music can be deeply intertwined with the narrative of our moral lives, can inspire interaction and engagement. And the more we allow our various discourses to reflect its ethical multiplicity, the more justice we are able to do to various facets of music. Music takes us to an ethics of affinity and engagement evoked through aesthetic sensibility. Music can teach us to listen more carefully and it can make us receptive and responsive to the voices of others and to the voice of otherness, to other voices and to the otherness of the voice. Through voice, music provides a rich opportunity for responding to particular ethical situations, challenging existing norms. From the perspective of a musician, music might be the way to explore and develop certain kinds of interactions which perhaps are blocked in other parts of our lives.
