ABSTRACT

Described as a communication system, popular music as recorded music produced by musicians is very different from art music as written music produced by composers which has been the main focus of musicological analysis. The concept of the author in popular music differs from that of traditional art music. In most cases, a pop song is created by making, not by writing, music. The introduction of the sound recording resulted in the emergence of a new communication system, which in its purest form can be studied in recorded popular music. In music, the emotive function in communication is important to mark the ownership of a song or a composition. Signs with a phatic function help to keep up the contact between the two sides of communication; they secure attention and signal the beginning and the end of a contact. In many pop songs, choruses have a strong conative function.
