ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book discusses the multiple and multifaceted relationships between new technologies and human rights. It addresses some considerations 'on how Information and communication technologies (ICT) can contribute to constitute new human rights or dimensions of them'. The book discusses some of the competition law issues raised by international transfer of technology analyzing what could be the possible role of competition law to ease the flow of technology and promote development. It describes current basic uses and applications of genetic data in ambit of research, discussing in particular the legal frameworks that have been developed in order to regulate biobanks. The book analyzes the conflict between the right to privacy and security in the use of new technologies for the fight against crime. It discusses law and politics surrounding cyber warfare, and the challenges this type of war pose to international human rights law.
