ABSTRACT

The sweeping transformations that the Middle East and North Africa is currently witnessing offer us an opportunity to reflect upon political change. In this contribution I want to make a number of reflections on the dynamics of the Arab Spring by returning to the revolutionary process in the country where it all started, namely Tunisia. By returning to the Tunisian revolution, my aim is not to rewrite the dynamics and logics of the events leading to Ben Ali’s departure based on what we know today. Rather, I want to critically assess our academic frameworks and theoretical outlooks to make sense of political change in the region and beyond.
