ABSTRACT

The overall aim of this book was that set out in Chapter 1: namely, to examine the extent to which constitution-making processes matter in terms of their impact on the stability of the constitutional order, in terms of democracy and in terms of the peaceful regulation of conflict. We attempted to get to the bottom of this puzzle by using a comparative method of analysis: first, by looking at a large number of critical constitution-making events across the world (Part 1), later by looking at constitution-making processes across time in a number of more nuanced, small-n case studies (Part 2).
