ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book provides by members of the Dutch Study Group on Transitions between Juvenile Delinquency and Adult Crime has advanced the field in many different ways. It focuses on prediction and risk assessments to ascertain the risk of recidivism during the transition period between adolescence and adulthood. The book discusses legal boundaries between adolescence and adulthood and whether they need to be changed. It describes justice systems responses for juveniles and young adults. The book looks at preventive and remedial interventions outside of the justice system, gender issues and ethnic minorities. It mentions early individual differences appear related to self-control and brain development, and normal maturational processes often are not yet complete by age 18. The book mentions the role of cognitive impulsivity may play in forecasting the age-crime curve.
