ABSTRACT
This chapter provides an overview of some existing frameworks, lenses, and tools that can be employed by health geographers to acknowledge diversity among target population groups in their research. More specifically, the authors provide overviews of gender and sex-based analysis, social determinants of health and health equity impact assessment approaches, as well as intersectionality all of which are commonly employed diversity frameworks in health research. They begin with a brief introduction to diversity-based health research. The most general approach to exploring differentials within health research falls under the broad umbrella of what can be called "diversity-based analyses". This approach to analysis is not tied to particular theoretical paradigms or methods, but aims simply to explore and uncover differences between or within population groups. Gender and sex-based analysis (GSBA) is one of the first diversity-based approaches that emerged: it is considered to be at the heart of feminist health research.
