ABSTRACT

I have used go-along interviews for several research studies in order to explore the relationship between place and health, but I first tried the method as part of my doctoral research and learned the most from that early experience (Asanin Dean, 2012). The doctoral study examined local factors that influence adolescent body weight in low-socioeconomic neighborhoods, and I was particularly interested in linking perceptual data from adolescents with data from key informants about the various healthy eating and physical activity options that existed, along with ecological data of the neighborhoods.
