ABSTRACT

The Cinque Terre are a 10km stretch of land along the Ligurian coast that was declared a national park in 1999. Tourism in the Cinque Terre centers around hiking and experiencing the unique landscape. The most famous path is the Via dell'Amore, connecting Manarola to Riomaggiore, which are cut out of the steep cliffs overlooking the sea. So the Cinque Terre can clearly be distinquished from other tourist sites along the Italien coast that mostly focus on beach holidays. As it also includes the train journeys, the decision about the means of transport to reach the Cinque Terre is easily made. An important effect of this project is that it generates income for the Park Organization. The profit of the Cinque Terre Card can be invested into the preservation of the cultural landscape and the improvement of tourist services. Finally, in the Cinque Terre National Park tourism does not endanger the local cultural heritage, but supports its preservation.
