ABSTRACT
The following chapter is divided into sections that provide commentary on three classic articles that laid the groundwork for much of our current understanding of the way that queer communities have evolved in cities and the role of planning in this process. Each sub-section begins with a brief editorial summary of the relevant article, followed by commentary from the authors of that article. The editor asked each of the authors to reflect on the original context in which they wrote these articles, the reactions of their peers to this ground-breaking work, and whether they think the climate for such research has improved in the intervening time frame.
