ABSTRACT

Soil and groundwater contamination on brownfields was for many years the most dominant aspect of brownfield concern in Germany. Approaches for risk assessment and cleanup technologies have been regarded as key issues for the redevelopment of contaminated sites. The term “contaminated site” was almost used interchangeably with the term “brownfield.” Land management and land reuse aspects from the planners’ perspective were of minor relevance in the “contaminated land community.”
