ABSTRACT

This chapter concentrates on the construction of the community resilience under negative influences from higher scale administrative levels. As an example, the case of the rural community Noovice was taken. The cohesion of this community was significantly harmed due to the strained social relations that accompanied negotiations on the localisation of the Hyundai Motor Company (HMC) plant in the municipality. The insensitive policy of the superior Moravian-Silesian Region contributed to the escalation of the social situation in the community. The chapter focuses on the time spanning from the announcement of HMCs interest in localising its plant in Noovice in September 2005 until December 2005, when the compliance of all landowners to sell their land was reached by regional authorities. Despite the eminent interest of media, the incident has not been researched by Czech geographers or sociologists. The chapter reports the HMC arrival to the Czech Republic is main sources for the empirical part.
