‘Sexual intercourse’, as we all know, ‘began in nineteen sixty-three’: 1 coincidentally, the year which also saw the publication of a short pamphlet on sexuality by a group of Quakers that was to have considerable influence on attitudes to human sexuality both within the Religious Society of Friends and beyond it.
