Introduction To understand the current legal situation of religious law in the West Bank and in Gaza, we must delve into their histories. Certain historical texts I would like to mention are still valid today. The revolutions in the Arab world, even before being quashed by the army in Egypt and by the civil wars and foreign interventions in Libya, Syria, and Yemen, were not matters of religious liberty nor of internal religious law.
