ABSTRACT

Dave John and the Environmental Conservation Group at Lochaber College built the boardwalk through the forest to join the peat track near the summit of Cow Hill. Both the Peat Track and Outlandia boardwalk are used by Geocache hunters. Instigated by someone unknown to us, Outlandia has been designated a Geocache GPS coordinate, which locates a small, otherwise hidden, waterproof canister with logbook, pencil and trading items inside. Underpinning the Outlandia project, as a transformative creative potentiality is a diverse, attenuated alliance with adventure tourism and niche outdoor recreational activity. Remote Performances took place in August 2014 when Outlandia was turned into a temporary radio station by the Resonance team comprising Ed Baxter, Peter Lanceley, Sarah Nicol, and Michael Umney. Remote Performances sought to transmit experience of place to diverse audiences from remote and wild locations through a series of live broadcasts, blog posts and a publication, encompassing art, music, performance and dialogue.
