ABSTRACT

The Visitor Experience (VE) project is a major refurbishment exercise with some new build to meet the expectations of the public, in the modern age. The VE addresses some environmental and cultural factors in a physical form to provide a focus. New or improved facilities should relate to the needs of all interest groups, educational levels and cultural backgrounds. This chapter highlights the possibilities for building transformation through, amongst other suggestions, a new entrance, rationalizing the flow of people through the building, improving facilities for the disabled, upgrading exhibition and catering arrangements and establishing a shop. A vital part of the Third Library Building (TLB) project is the role of 'Project Users Group' which met regularly under the chairmanship of the Director of Administration and Technical Services to sign off planning decisions at important stages. National Library of Wales (NLW) is a registered charity and, in accordance with legal responsibilities, regular reports were given to the Buildings Committee comprising trustees.
