ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book explores "sexualities" as a compromising notion that can be structurally defined as a multifaceted categorical ideology. It uses military and war archives which poses a specific problem in that the researcher needs to read between the lines in order to construct a picture of sexualities. The book explains the already existing social scientific literature on sexuality, gender, identity and religion. Bisexuality and Transgender have then been appended to include explicitly the relatively larger subgroups. It provides the issues specifically concerned with researching bisexual men and women to that of gay men and lesbians who are Christians. The book explores the relationship between stigma-related experiences, depression and stress, self-esteem, and discrimination among 50 people living with HIV (PLWH) in Cyprus. It outlines the overviews of some critical analysis of methodological perspectives when conducting sociological research on homosexuality.
