ABSTRACT

The geographical area known as the Bledow Desert is situated about 40 km north-east of Katowice, the Silesian Metropolitan Area, which is the largest metropolitan complex in Poland. The wind blew the sand from place to place and made typical desert forms. New funds are being allocated to renovate the Desert as a submetropolitan tourism attraction. A concept of tourism and agritourism development of the desert was prepared. The desert has its natural curiosities, for example, an endemic perennial plant Cochlearia polonica and a walking and horse riding trail was marked. The Biala Przemsza River crosses the desert, flowing from west to east. The larger, southern part of the desert is almost entirely covered by vegetation, except for the eastern part. The implementation of new ideas is favoured by the fact that there were some special historic events that took place in the desert.
