ABSTRACT

Conakry lacks all types of urban infrastructure: both the soft, the organisational structure, and hard, the infrastructure. To tourists’ surprise, there is an asphalt dual carriageway running along the axis of the city, providing not only internal transport in the city but also a connection with the rest of the country. The water paradox in Conakry consists of the fact that, while there is excess of water from rainfall, there is no water in households. The lack of drinking water and sewage system is a significant problem in Conakry. Conakry is a new, poor city which is developing chaotically, without a noticeable plan. The city life is usually concentrated in the street. There is a very poor outlook for the development of general tourism in Guinea, let alone nature-based tourism. Naturally, tourists prefer the dry season, but rivers full of water, dynamic waterfalls and lush vegetation make the rainy season unusually charming.
