ABSTRACT

This chapter attempts to refer selected economic theories and regional development theories to rural tourism. The main areas of research interests are tourism economy, the position of tourism in the national economy, the market of tourism services, the economics of tourism, tourism in regional and local development and institutional conditions for the development of tourism. The development of tourism in metropolitan areas is best described by economic base theory. Regulation theory can be referred to the tourism branch of the economy in its broad sense. The main aspect of the regulatory role of the state is the establishment of legal regulations on agritourism, or in fact, the absence of such regulations. The unique developmental potential of the region is appreciated in endogenous development theory, which assumes that each region has its own set of qualities, which make its specific developmental potential.
