ABSTRACT

Selena endeavoured to enliven the dreariness of the wintry scenes thro which they past and their own hopeless comfortless prospects by every effort which her naturally cheerful disposition and lively fancy could suggest. It was early in the day when they reached Hillbarton where they had the satisfaction of finding Mrs. Vallard considerably better tho yet unable to leave her room. Never had Selena beheld a countenance so heavenly Candour, humility and peace sat upon his brow whose unwrinkled serenity seemed to deny the years which had yet marked their course by a few silvery hairs but thinly scattered over his temples. She then made an effort to move and Selena offering her assistance she pointed to some papers which lay half covered by the pillow. Taking them from Selena she pressed them for a moment to her bosom and her countenance for the first time assumed the expression of agony.
