ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the use of Self Managed Learning as part of a major change process in PPP healthcare. It describes the way SML has both fostered change and made it easier for the organization to respond to change. This chapter is based a great deal around research conducted by Rosie Serpis, HR Manager within PPP healthcare, for her Masters degree in Employment Strategy. The research was conducted mainly on the senior managers in PPP healthcare, who had gone through a Self Managed Learning programme entitled Personal Development for Business (PDfB). The research showed the value of Self Managed Learning as a strategic development approach which has supported and enabled the management of significant change in the company. Rob Shorrick joined PPP healthcare as Manager for Group Development and Training during the early days of Peter Owen becoming CEO.
