ABSTRACT
The Webbs formulated a central disciplinary problem succinctly. They did not, however, go on to state what can be seen as a corollary of their perception. If, as they say, “human beings and … social institutions are always changing,” may we then conclude that sociologists and their ways of working change as do the subjects of social research?
