ABSTRACT

This book approaches the question of how normativity comes about. In that respect, it does not provide an answer to this question; rather, it introduces a perspective from which it is possible to understand the question. This question is posed from a socio-legal perspective, and the book concentrates on the relations between social and legal norms. But what is meant by the concept of normativity? The issue of normativity is very complex and can be approached in different ways. It is important to state that it extends beyond legal theory, sociology of law and sociology. It is, of course, a crucial issue in philosophy and the social sciences in general. As with the concept of norms, it is common to several sciences. Due to the normative character of parts of philosophy and legal theory, normativity seems to be of special interest in those fields.
