ABSTRACT

This chapter analyses how Web 2.0 enhances and transforms Knowledge management(KM) practices and then to investigate how Greek tourism firms exploit Web 2.0 tools for supporting their KM. The chapter starts by identifying the KM processes and then debating the role and limitations of Information and Communication Technologies(ICT) for supporting these KM processes. The chapter continues by analyzing the transformative power of Web 2.0 that migrates KM from a technology-centric to a people-centric approach that overcomes the conventional approaches to ICT-driven KM by supporting conversational and collaborative KM processes. The literature has shown that different types of technology exploitation reflect different levels of technology supported KM practices. Consequently, a questionnaire measuring the different types of Web 2.0 usage for KM was developed and used to collect data from Greek tourism firms. Web 2.0 appears to address many of the limitations of the conventional ICT-driven KM, as Web 2.0 considers the human and social aspects of knowledge.
