ABSTRACT

This chapter analyses the complex rural web' in Devon by examining the continued development of a range of endogenous and sustainable eco-economic clusters. It describes how developments in and between the domains of the rural web in Devon influence the fostering and agglomerating of eco-economic clusters. In Devon, the popularity of the county as a holiday destination is matched by its attractiveness to people moving from elsewhere in the United Kingdom (UK). The eco-economic paradigm may be seen as an essentially socio-spatial understanding of both production and consumption spheres consisting of complex networks or webs' of new viable businesses and economic activities. Devon County Council (DCC) plays an important role in trying to promote Devon as a sustainable county where green tourism, landscape and local food are attractive for tourists. The conclusion so far is that market governance arrangements serve to promote Devon as a sustainable county and eco-economic cluster in food and tourism.
