ABSTRACT

That Management Learning (ML) has become big business is without a doubt both the cause for the challenges it faces and the opportunities it needs to explore if it is to continue to add value to the range of stakeholders’ groups that it is intended to serve. This chapter engages with one of the most central aspects in ML – understanding and supporting purposeful action. ML can be defined in a number of different ways however, at the core of what ML seeks to achieve is to integrate different learning opportunities that are available in a range of education programmes, training events and development initiatives. Whether ML happens in Business Schools, in Corporate Universities, in Training fora or as part and parcel of the day-to-day experiences practising managers engage with at work, at the core of all these activities is action.
