ABSTRACT

Genre romance fiction is a circulation mainstay in most public libraries, and, as such, is important to libraries and librarians in the United States, the U.K., Australia, and elsewhere. Much of the available research focuses on collection development, access, and readers’ advisory issues, but librarian and reader attitudes/opinions and other relevant topics, are also examined. This chapter reviews the most significant research to date on libraries (public, academic, and school) and popular romance, as well as discussing some of the more important but less formal articles on the subject. In the hope of sparking interest in the topic, it also will highlight areas that would benefit from further research.
