ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on what booksellers in the U.S. have termed “inspirational” romances: those marketing toward conservative, evangelical Protestants. This chapter maps the history and scope, including subgenres, of Christian romances. It starts with a historical overview of Christian romances and an exploration of subgenres. An examination of the interplay between these subgenres follows, and the chapter concludes by considering the current state of religious romance scholarship and publishing.
