ABSTRACT
Queer theory works not to exchange binaries of masculinity/femininity, hetero/homo or even human/non-human but to theorise the spaces between and the mobilisation of categories of identity through desire. In order to interrogate the role of sexuality in the formation and reification of subjectivity one must presume the consistency of all subjects as first belonging to a hermeneutic ontological system – the human. Certain categories oppose or extend the concept of the human through the creation of hybrid desires extending in both directions of the evolutionary trajectory – the pre-human (animal, monster, molecule) and the posthuman (cyborg, body-modifier, surgically altered). These hybrid formations are the results of what Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari call an ‘unnatural’ alliance of desire.
