ABSTRACT

Originating from the 'standardized patients' commonly used in American medical schools since the early 1960s,2 'standardized clients' (SCs) were first used in the Effective Lawyer-Client Communication (ELCC) project in 1998: four law school clinics, three from the United States and one from Australia, participated. The idea of open recruitment was considered not practicable. Additional resources would be required for even a simple advertisement and the selection process which could be time-consuming and ineffective. Taken from the GGSL model, the three-day training at HKU was divided into three parts, namely general role-playing training, familiarization and practice of scenarios and scripts and assessment training and standardization.
