ABSTRACT

In this concluding chapter, I would like to explore Brazilian forms of re-appropriation, and to give an idea of what Shakespeare may look like in Brazil today. 1 I will thus focus on a theatrical company, Grupo Galpão (i.e. ‘Shed Group’) that comes from the region of Minas Gerais. 2 It is the third most important state in Brazil, situated in the south-eastern part of the country. Its position, away from the dominance of the traditional cultural centres of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, but still within an area of better artistic opportunities, gives the group a unique personality and stance.
