ABSTRACT

This chapter considers some of the features of cultural creativity, its uneasy relationship with technology, its creative industries bedfellow and considers the role of the citizen and artist in cultural creativity. The cultural industries (CIs) include all cultural resources, but are specifically concerned with those related to the arts. Sticky culture is typified by two significant features that are linked and co-dependent: In the first place they claim a form of authenticity of place and practice, and in the second they are unlikely to relocate. These two co-dependent characteristics give the cultural industries an advantage over other industries that is difficult to replicate. However, sticky culture provides a long-term sustainable provision, with less if any likelihood of migration. In terms of sticky culture as a business, the figures for cultural tourism are significant. The combined arts, culture and creative sectors is globally one of the fastest growing, representing 7" of global GDP and growing at 10" per annum.
