ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the creative city from the personal perspective. Discussions that involve the creative city often dive into economic trends, large-scale changes and possibilities. The creative city starts with a mindset: building the creative city requires everyone to open themselves up to their surroundings. Eindhoven has been one of the early adopters of the creative economy and, while still in rapid development, it offers realistic examples of the creative city. Events like Dutch Design Week create awareness and make it possible for everyone to connect to the creative world. Strijp-S and events like Dutch Design Week still attract a specific audience. The majority of people have some sort of link with the creative professional field. A creative city starts with a good variation of breeding grounds. The Dutch government supports these spaces, and special platforms-like the engineering shop at the TU/e-connect companies and institutions.
