ABSTRACT
I begin by discussing the development of symboling in the drama of human evolution, by which I mean communication through signs representing through habit or convention, whether cultural or natural. I introduce the term symboling to emphasize the processual nature of semiosis, or sign-action, in Peirce’s sense (Halton 2011).
