ABSTRACT
We accept that the patient told her children never to give up. Encouraging perseverance and determination is something that most parents do. There was never any discussion between the patient and her children as to what the general admonition to not give up might mean in the context of the circumstances that she was now in. Did Ms. P. believe that not to give up extended to performing CPR on an unconscious person whose organs were shutting down?
