ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a roadmap through the emerging field of making and education while focusing on how the field is connected to the learning sciences. We begin with an overview of research on the Maker Movement and then turn to how people learn both in and through making. We conclude by offering reflections on three key issues: 1) The Maker Movement contributes to our theories of how people learn; 2) Makerspaces provide opportunities for the design of learning environments and; 3) Who counts as makers pushes us to attend to issues of equity and diveristy in learning and design.
