ABSTRACT
Twenty-first century society relies on digital technology for information relevant to all spheres of life. This chapter brings together work from two research areas that have focused on the competencies demanded by 21st century society: information problem solving and multiple source discourse comprehension. Both research areas have been concerned with source attributes, as well as learner and task characteristics that impact search, evaluation and integration processes within and across sources. We describe a conceptual model as well as an integrative framework for various elements of multiple source comprehension and information problem solving. Discussion of the integrative model generates suggestions for further research.
