ABSTRACT

Th is dimension of culture deals with how diff erent cultures defi ne what is public and what is private and thus the degree of involvement in relationships. Th ose with a specifi c orientation tend to see themselves as people who segregate their task or business relationships from personal relationships. Th is may be expressed in the value you attach to being direct, open and extroverted, as well as in giving your work life priority over your private life. Taking specifi city to the extreme might lead to a lack of true personal involvement. People with a specifi c orientation tend to initially see people with a more diff use orientation as indirect, reserved and evasive and fi nd it hard to make initial contact with them.
