ABSTRACT
This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book examines the resurgence and re-imagination of feminist discourse on gender and sexuality in South Asia as expressed through its theoretical, cinematic, literary, and social media narratives. It brings incisive and expert analyses of emerging disruptive articulations that represent an unprecedented surge of feminist response to the culture of sexual violence in South Asia. The overwhelming and continuing protests in the wake of the 2012 gang rape and murder of a young Delhi student and the subsequent BBC film "India's Daughter" have brought conversations on sexuality and freedom in India within the global public sphere. This incident provided a spark to already brimming emotions of profound discontent with the misogynistic Indian culture and politicized the consciousness of men and women who poured into the streets of India speaking rights-bearing language.
