ABSTRACT

This chapter considers practice in the delivery of interventions designed to address sexual offending risk amongst those convicted of sexual offences. It outlines the current approaches to interventions designed for males convicted of sexual offending behaviour, with a particular focus on A. J. Carter and R. E. Mann’s organising principles for an integrated model of change for the treatment of sexual offending behaviour. Academic and clinical knowledge of sexual offending behaviour has developed immensely with the completion of research and the development and refinement of models and theories of sexual offending behaviour. Despite widespread delivery of interventions to men who have been convicted of sexual offences, meta-analyses show a small but robust overall effect of treatment on recidivism. From an international perspective, interventions for males convicted of sexual offences are predominantly group based and follow a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy model in terms of design and delivery.
