ABSTRACT
Geun-hye-the first female president of the Republic of Korea-and her new administration
pledged to build a new creative economy on the basis of the booming, globalizing creative
industries in Korea. Park aims to bring about an economic revival by fostering a creative
economy. Many studies have been done on the economic factors of Hallyu –such as
Hallyu impacts on film and TV programme exports (Ryu, 2013), tourism growth (Jang &
Paik, 2012) and technology innovation (Cho, 2005). However, only few studies have been
done on the spatial evolution of the leading creative industries-for instance, the film and
TV production industries-which are benefiting from the Hallyu phenomenon.
